Sourcing Sheet Metal from China: A Practical Buyer Checklist

Eight checks for supplier review, drawing preparation and quotation comparison.

01

Confirm the supplier and certificate

Ask for the operating address, the quality certificate number and a copy that can be checked against the party named in your commercial documents. The Suzhou manufacturing team reports ISO 9001:2015 certificate LBC22Q0197ROS; request a current copy before relying on it.

02

Match the equipment to your part

Review cutting and forming capacity, welding resources and any machining needed after fabrication. For reference, the Suzhou manufacturing team operates two laser cutting machines, a tube laser, three 150-ton CNC press brakes, welding equipment and platforms, and a gantry machining center.

03

Send a complete drawing package

Provide a 3D model when available, a dimensioned drawing, material and finish requirements, critical characteristics, quantity and the intended assembly context. Mark undecided items for engineering advice.

04

Look for real DFM questions

A useful review identifies unclear dimensions, difficult bends, weld access, hardware conflicts and finish-sensitive areas. A fast price without drawing questions is not the same as an engineering review.

05

Compare the same quotation scope

Make sure each quote covers the same drawing revision, quantity, finish, hardware, inspection expectations, packaging and delivery responsibility before comparing totals.

06

Approve a sample before production

A physical sample helps both sides confirm the drawing, assembly interfaces and finish expectations. Steadfab accepts sample orders from 1 piece.

07

Understand the finishing chain

Ask which finishing steps are completed in-house and how outside processes are checked. The Suzhou manufacturing team completes high-temperature bake painting in-house; selected powder coating partners return parts for color, film-thickness and adhesion checks.

08

Keep one accountable owner

Choose a workflow where one named person owns open questions, drawing revisions and the handoff between processes. Steadfab provides direct engineer contact and one accountable project owner.
